Captain David Stiller

With over 35 years of commercial fishing experience, much of it spent targeting sharks off the coasts of Florida, our captain has honed his skills to elite levels. Following in the footsteps of his family—early settlers of South Florida in the 1900s—he’s built a lifelong career around the ocean and now calls Bon Secour, Alabama home.

As the lead captain of Apex Shark Charter, he brings unmatched knowledge of offshore shark fishing to every trip. Whether it’s battling monster sharks in deep Gulf waters or navigating shifting conditions with expert precision, he delivers a thrilling, safe, and action-packed charter fishing experience for anglers of all skill levels.

His deep understanding of the ocean and its apex predators sets him apart, turning every outing into more than just a fishing trip—it’s a memorable, educational, and adrenaline-filled adventure on the open water. When you're out with Apex, you're fishing with a true professional who lives and breathes the sea.

CAPTAIN LEW CHILDRE

Lew Childre, founder of Apex Shark Charter, is a true product of Baldwin County, Alabama, with deep roots that stretch across the region—from the rivers of Bon Secour to the creeks of Miflin, and the sunny shores of Orange Beach, where he spent his summers on the water. The waterfront has always been home, shaping his connection to the sea from a young age.

With over 20 years of commercial fishing experience, Lew is the definition of a jack of all trades. By day, he works as a mechanical engineer, and by night and weekend, he’s an oyster farmer, diesel mechanic, and hydraulic systems expert. His hands-on expertise and tireless work ethic have fueled the creation of Apex Shark Charter, a top-tier name in Gulf Coast offshore shark fishing.

Lew’s deep local knowledge, mechanical skills, and passion for the ocean make every Apex trip not just a fishing charter, but an authentic experience led by someone who truly lives the lifestyle..

FOUNDER

RESEARCH EFFORTS

At Apex Sharks Fishing Charter, our passion for offshore shark fishing goes hand in hand with marine conservation. We are proud to be one of only three vessels selected for the Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Sandbar Research Fishery, contributing critical data that supports sustainable shark management in the Gulf of Mexico.

We also collaborate with leading research institutions, including Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, University of Mississippi, and Dauphin Island Sea Lab, helping advance shark research, marine science, and Gulf Coast conservation efforts.

Fishing with Apex Sharks means supporting real-world marine research while experiencing one of the most elite shark fishing charters on the Gulf Coast.
